"TASS" Rules and Points System

2005 SERIES RACES:

The Tough As Steel Series (TASS) consists of a best five of seven races of mixed disciplines: time trial, road, and cross country from May through September, 2005. The TASS race series is sponsored by Stairs Welding, the master steel frame builder based in Hodgden, Maine. Your best five races will be scored for your total points at the end of the season. If you do not complete at least five races, then you will receive 0 points for those races you did not complete to equal five. You are not be penalized for completing more than five races as the lowest scores are dropped.

POINTS SYSTEM:

The points are based on a 100 point system (see chart below). After separating men and women, points are awarded according to your finishing place. Riders will receive 0 points for DNF's, so it is important to at least finish and get all the points possible. In the case of races that have different distances, (i.e. mountain bike races), the 100 points will be awarded for the longest/expert event. For shorter events the points will start at the 11th place finisher (75 points) and go down from there.

DISPUTES AND CONTESTINGS:

Any disputes in points scoring must be brought to the attention of Joe Ewings within 7 days of posting of the race in question to website. All disputes will judged by a three person board consisting of Joe Ewings and two other noninvolved riders. All decisions of board will be final.

DIVISIONS:

There will be awards for the overall men and women points leader as well as for the age groups: 0-29, 30-49, 50+., with age determined by the rider's age as of the last race of the series.

PRIZES:

As well as the awards for overall and divisional winners, there will be a random drawing for a set of Bontrager Select road wheels for everyone who has completed at least 4 races.

You do not have to be present to win.

RACES AND RESULTS:

The final 2005 race results are posted on the TASS Results page.
The overall winners were: Men - Von Perry, Women - Melanie Stewart
